Homestyle chicken curry

This easy homestyle chicken curry recipe is made with tender chicken cooked in a rich masala gravy using everyday Indian spices. Perfect for lunch or dinner, this comforting dish is kid-friendly, flavorful, and pairs well with rice, naan, or roti. A simple one-pot meal that tastes better than restaurant curry!



Homestyle Chicken Curry (Family Friendly)

⏱ Time: 30–35 minutes

🍽 Serves: 3–4

🧄 Ingredients

For marination (optional but makes chicken soft):

• 500 g chicken (bone-in or boneless)

• ½ tsp turmeric

• Salt to taste

For curry:

• 3 tbsp oil

• 4 medium onions (finely chopped)

• 1 tbsp crushed ginger garlic 

• 1 tsp cumin seeds

• 1 tsp crushed whole garam masala ( green cardamom, black cardamom, cloves, pepper)

• 1 bay leaf

Spices (mild & kids friendly):

• 1 tsp coriander powder

• ½ tsp turmeric

• ½–1 tsp red chilli powder (adjust)

• 1 tsp garam masala

• 1 tsp suhana chicken masala

• Salt to taste

Other:

• 1 cup water (as needed)

• Fresh methi leaves

👩‍🍳 Method

1️⃣ Marinate chicken

Mix chicken with turmeric, and salt.

Keep aside for 10 minutes.

2️⃣ Prepare base masala

Heat oil in pan.

Add cumin seeds & bay leaf.

Add chopped onions and cook a bit.

3️⃣ Add spices

Cook till oil separates from masala.

Add turmeric, coriander powder, chilli powder, and salt.

Mix well and cook 2 minutes.

4️⃣ Cook chicken


Add marinated chicken.

Cook on medium flame 3–4 minutes while stirring.

Add crushed ginger garlic and crushed whole garam masala.

Cook for few minutes on a low flame.

Add water, cover and cook for 18–20 minutes till chicken becomes soft.

5️⃣ Final touch

Add methi leaves

Simmer 2 minutes and turn off heat.

🍽 Serve with:

Rice, roti, paratha, or naan
